Summary
Connecticut Medicaid will now display alternative preferred drugs and enhanced denial messaging when non-preferred medications or diabetic supplies are submitted without prior authorization. Pharmacists will receive specific messages to contact physicians about required prior authorizations and see lists of preferred alternatives.

Effective January 27, 2021: Providers should proactively switch Connecticut Medicaid patients to preferred medications from the PDL or obtain prior authorization through the Pharmacy Web PA feature at www.ctdssmap.com before prescribing non-preferred drugs. Review the current Preferred Drug List and Preferred Diabetic Supply Product List on the website. Pharmacists must contact prescribers when denial messages appear for non-preferred medications to discuss preferred alternatives or prior authorization requirements.
