Summary
Effective April 1, 2023, dental providers must change from billing CDT code D0190 (Screening of a Patient) to CDT code D0140 (Limited oral evaluation – problem focused) when billing the dental component of multi-disciplinary examinations. A newer code will be added to the fee schedule in a future policy update.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update system to use CDT code D0140 instead of D0190 for dental components of multi-disciplinary examinations for all dates of service from April 1, 2023 forward. Update encounter forms and billing software rules. Monitor for future policy transmittal containing the newer MDE-specific code.
