Summary
The Mental Health Access Improvement Act now allows Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) to enroll as Medicare providers and bill Medicare Part B for approved services. These clinicians can sign up for the Medicare provider program starting January 1, 2024.
Action Required
By January 1, 2024: LPC and MFT providers must enroll in the Medicare provider program through the CMS website to begin billing Medicare Part B. Billing team should verify provider enrollment status and update billing systems to include LPC/MFT Medicare billing capabilities.
