Summary
Connecticut Medicaid (HUSKY A, B, C, D and Covered CT) will now cover select periodontal services effective January 1, 2024. All periodontal scaling and root planing services require prior authorization and patients must have both periodontal disease and specific qualifying co-morbid conditions.
Action Required
By January 1, 2024: Dental billing teams must update systems to require prior authorization for CDT codes D4341 and D4342 (periodontal scaling and root planing). Establish workflow to verify patients have qualifying co-morbid conditions before submitting PA requests through the BeneCare/CTDHP portal at www.ctdhp.org. Train staff on comprehensive documentation requirements including periodontal charting, treatment plans, and radiographs. Claims will be denied without proper prior authorization.
