Summary
Connecticut Medicaid now requires free-standing substance use disorder residential treatment facilities to bill with Place of Service (POS) code 55 'Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Facility' effective April 1, 2024. Claims billed without POS 55 will be denied with EOB code 4821.
Action Required
Immediately (retroactive to April 1, 2024): Billing team must update all claims for free-standing SUD residential treatment facilities to use Place of Service code 55 'Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Facility'. Update billing software rules and encounter forms. Claims without POS 55 will be denied with EOB code 4821.
