Summary
For ambulance providers billing Medicaid, a new procedure code 4701Y must now be used instead of A0425 when billing for intracity/in-town mileage transportation services. Code A0425 should still be used for town-to-town ambulance mileage.
Action Required
Immediately: Ambulance billing teams must update billing systems to use procedure code 4701Y for all intracity/in-town mileage instead of A0425 for Medicaid members. Continue using A0425 only for town-to-town ambulance mileage. Update billing software rules and train staff on the distinction between intracity vs. town-to-town services. Previously paid claims using A0425 for intracity services do not need adjustment.
