Summary
Connecticut Medicaid is updating telehealth billing codes effective January 1, 2025. Old telephone consultation codes 99442 and 99443 are being discontinued, and new audio-only codes 98012-98013 and audio-video codes 98000-98007 are being added to replace traditional E/M codes when services are provided via telemedicine.
Action Required
By January 1, 2025: Billing team must update billing system to stop using CPT codes 99442 and 99443 for telephone consultations. Add new telehealth-specific codes 98000-98007 for audio-video visits and 98012-98013 for audio-only visits. Update encounter forms and EMR templates to distinguish between in-person visits (continue using 99202-99215) and telehealth visits (use new 98000 series codes). Train providers on time-based documentation requirements for new codes.
