Summary
Connecticut Medicaid now requires dental providers to use specific Place of Service (POS) codes when billing for services at different locations. Most importantly, all school-based dental services must use POS code 03 starting March 1, 2026, and providers are strongly encouraged to use accurate POS codes for mobile dental services in community settings.
Action Required
Before March 1, 2026: Billing team must update dental claim forms to use correct Place of Service codes in field 38. Use POS 03 for all school-based dental services regardless of delivery method (mobile vans, portable equipment, fixed sites). For mobile/portable services in community settings, update billing system to prompt for location-specific POS codes (e.g., POS 58 for opioid treatment facilities, POS 27 for outreach events, POS 31 for skilled nursing facilities). Train staff on new POS code requirements to ensure accurate claim submissions.
