Summary
New Jersey Medicaid is eliminating livery transportation as a covered medical service reimbursed on a fee-for-service basis, effective August 1. Livery claims (HCPCS codes Y and Y) submitted for dates of service on or after August 1 will be denied. Transportation will now be provided through state-contracted vendors in Essex and Hudson Counties or county welfare agencies in other counties.
Action Required
By August 1, 2024: Billing team must stop submitting livery transportation claims for dates of service on or after August 1. Update billing system rules to deny or reject any livery transportation claims with service dates after August 1. Before August 1: Review any pending livery claims from prior service dates and submit within the 12-month window to avoid denial. Notify transportation providers and patient care coordinators of the coverage elimination. Flag any existing livery authorizations or referrals as voided effective August 1. Claims for livery services rendered before August 1 must be submitted within 12 months of the first date of service or they will be denied.
