Summary

New Jersey Medicaid has resumed contracting with multiple lower-mode (non-ambulance, non-emergency) transportation vendors in Essex County after the previous single-provider contract was terminated. Providers must update their referral processes to use the new state-contracted transportation provider list effective December.

Action Required

Action needed
By December 2024: Billing and clinical staff must obtain and retain the updated list of state-contracted lower-mode transportation providers in Essex County from Peter K. Rosswaag or Kate Straussl at the Essex County Medicaid District Office. Update internal referral procedures and patient transportation forms to reference only approved vendors on the new list. When arranging transportation for Essex County Medicaid clients needing lower-mode transport to obtain covered services, direct requests to vendors on the updated state-contracted list. Failure to use approved vendors may result in claim denials or service disruptions for clients.
