Summary
East Orange General Assistance (GA) pharmaceutical services will now require prior authorization for certain drugs, matching requirements already in place for Newark GA. Pharmacies must call the DFD HOTLINE to obtain PA numbers before dispensing listed medications to beneficiaries with ID numbers starting with '5235'.
Action Required
By March 1, 1996: Pharmacy staff must identify East Orange GA beneficiaries by ID numbers starting with '5235' and call DFD HOTLINE at 1-800-609-0106 (9 AM-5 PM weekdays) to obtain prior authorization numbers before dispensing any drugs on the provided list. Report PA numbers in Field 21 on MC-6 forms. For emergencies when hotline unavailable, dispense 72-hour supply and submit hard-copy claims to Unisys with 'Emergency' noted in Field 18. Claims without proper authorization will be denied.
