Summary
New Jersey Medicaid is replacing 10 obsolete HCPCS procedure codes (90015, 90017, 90020, 90050, 90060, 90070, 90750, 90751, 90760, 90761) with new CPT codes for substance abuse evaluation and management services at drug treatment centers. One code (90060) has no replacement. Billing teams must update systems to use the new codes for all claims with service dates on or after March 1, 1997.
Action Required
By March 1, 1997 (or immediately if billing current claims): Billing team must update all billing system mappings and encounter forms to discontinue use of deleted HCPCS codes 90015, 90017, 90020, 90050, 90060, 90070, 90750, 90751, 90760, and 90761. Replace with corresponding new CPT codes per the crosswalk provided (90015→99203, 90017→99204, 90020→99205, 90050→99213, 90070→99214, 90750→99385/99386/99387, 90751→99384, 90760→99395, 90761→99394; note 90060 has no replacement—do not bill). Update billing software rules and provider encounter templates. Alert providers at drug treatment centers of the code changes. Claims submitted with deleted codes will be rejected by New Jersey Medicaid.
