New Jersey established the Supplementary Prenatal Care Program (NJSPCP) to provide Medicaid-covered prenatal care for legal immigrant pregnant women who are otherwise ineligible due to federal restrictions. Eligible patients receive a special card with a PE Medicaid number and red stamp limiting services to pregnancy-related care only.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must train staff to recognize NJSPCP cards with PE Medicaid numbers and red 'PRENATAL SERVICES ONLY' stamps. Verify eligibility via REVS/MEVS hotline 1-800-676-6562. Limit billing to pregnancy-related services only (obstetrical care, pharmaceuticals, radiology, lab services). Inform patients to contact County Board of Social Services for separate Medicaid number for labor/delivery and emergency services. Ensure newborn Medicaid enrollment is initiated immediately after delivery.
