Summary
New Jersey's DME Recycling Program mandates that medical suppliers must contact InterHealth LLC to retrieve recycled durable medical equipment for Medicaid, General Assistance, and NJ KidCare fee-for-service beneficiaries in seven counties before dispensing new equipment. Specific HCPCS procedure codes identified in previous guidance are eligible for recycling. The program applies only to fee-for-service claims with service dates on or after November 1, 1999 (with enforcement beginning November 10, 1999), and does not apply to managed care enrollees.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Immediately: Medical suppliers must establish contact procedures with InterHealth LLC (1-800-933-4028) for all DME requests not requiring prior authorization. Contact hours are 9 AM to 8 PM daily.
- For service dates on or after November 10, 1999: Before dispensing new DME to Medicaid, GA, or NJ KidCare FFS beneficiaries residing in Burlington, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, and Union Counties, billing and supply teams must contact InterHealth LLC to verify equipment availability and allow 48 hours for routine delivery or 6 hours for administrative emergencies.
- Update internal workflows to document all telephone inquiries to InterHealth LLC (contractor maintains telephone log).
- For DME requiring prior authorization: Coordinate with Medicaid District Offices to verify recycled equipment availability before issuing verbal approvals.
- Inform beneficiaries about the DME Recycling Program and provide them with InterHealth LLC's toll-free number (1-800-933-4028) for equipment return when no longer medically necessary.
- Failure to contact InterHealth LLC for available recycled equipment may result in claim denials or delays.
