Summary

New Jersey is expanding the DME Recycling Program to Essex and Hudson counties effective April 1, 2001. Medical suppliers must now contact Inter-Health LLC (1-800-933-4028) to check equipment availability before delivering recyclable DME to Medicaid, NJ Kidcare, and NJ FamilyCare beneficiaries in these counties. For items requiring prior authorization, the state will handle the recycling check directly.

Action Required

Action needed
By April 1, 2001: Medical suppliers must implement a new workflow requiring contact with Inter-Health LLC (1-800-933-4028) before delivering recyclable DME in Essex and Hudson counties for fee-for-service Medicaid, NJ Kidcare, and NJ FamilyCare beneficiaries. Suppliers must verify equipment availability for all recyclable DME not requiring prior authorization before fulfillment. For DME requiring prior authorization, suppliers should expect the Medical Assistance Customer Centers (MACCs) to contact Inter-Health LLC directly and reference recycling availability in authorization decisions. Update supplier processes and staff training on the expanded counties and new contact requirement. Obtain and retain the list of recyclable DME items (referenced as attachment) for reference during the authorization and fulfillment process.
