Summary
New Jersey Division of Medical Assistance & Health Services temporarily expanded hospital access to Medicaid eligibility files from REVS/MEVS systems to assist with Medicare DSH (Disproportionate Share Hospital) claiming. Hospitals can now access Medicaid eligibility data from January 1, 2000 through the request date (extended through June 30, 2001), rather than the standard 12-month lookback period. On July 1, 2001, access reverts to the standard 12-month rolling window.
Action Required
This policy applies only to hospitals with Medicare DSH claiming responsibilities in New Jersey. Medical billing practices at non-hospital healthcare settings should not take action. Hospitals in New Jersey: By June 30, 2001, complete collection and reconciliation of Medicaid eligibility data from January 1, 2000 forward using the expanded REVS/MEVS access window. Ensure your Medicare DSH claims incorporate identified Medicaid eligible days. After July 1, 2001, revert to standard 12-month lookback access for ongoing Medicaid eligibility verification. Notify your Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) if DSH claim adjustments are needed based on the expanded data access.
