Summary
New Jersey Medicaid has updated procedure codes for ambulance services effective January 1, 2001, to align with Medicare's revised codes. Four ambulance service categories have new HCPCS codes, and providers must transition to these codes immediately. Old codes will be terminated on May 31, 2001.
Action Required
By May 31, 2001: Billing team must immediately update all billing system software and claim submission processes to replace old ambulance procedure codes with new codes. Specifically: replace A0030 and A0040 with A0430 (fixed-wing air ambulance); replace A0320 and A0360 with A0428 (BLS non-emergency); replace A0322 and A0362 with A0429 (BLS emergency); replace Y0005 with A0420 (waiting time). Stop submitting claims with old codes as of June 1, 2001. Notify all transportation service providers of the code changes and update internal documentation.
