Summary
New Jersey's AIDS Drug Distribution Program (ADDP) is expanding its covered drug formulary effective August 1, 2002, to include FDA-approved prescription drugs currently covered by the state's Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) program, provided manufacturers have signed federal Medicaid drug rebate agreements. This expansion allows low-income HIV/AIDS patients with ADDP eligibility to receive additional prescription medications at no cost.
Action Required
By August 1, 2002: Billing team and pharmaceutical services providers must update pharmacy claims submission systems and formulary databases to recognize the expanded list of ADDP-covered drugs. Verify that all newly eligible drugs have manufacturers with active federal Medicaid drug rebate agreements before processing claims. Coordinate with the Division of AIDS Prevention and Control (DOAPC) to obtain the complete updated ADDP drug formulary list. NJ FamilyCare HMO coordinators should note that managed care beneficiaries are unaffected as they retain HMO pharmaceutical coverage.
