The New Jersey Department of Health notified nursing facilities about the automatic application of the 1.4% Social Security COLA increase effective January 1, 2003. Facilities must review the COLA UPDATE REPORT and update patient payment amounts on billing forms when differences of $1.00 or more exist.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Review the COLA UPDATE REPORT for your facility. Compare the NET INC AFTER column amounts with the Long Term Care TAD MCNH-117 PATIENT PAYMENT amount in Block #35. If difference is $1.00 or more: (1) Change PATIENT PAYMENT amount on TAD Block #35 to reflect actual patient liability and submit to Unisys, (2) Inform County Welfare Agency that new PR1 needs completion. If difference is less than $1.00: (1) Change PATIENT PAYMENT amount on TAD Block #35 only, (2) Do NOT inform County Welfare Agency. EMC submitters should update PATIENT PAYMENT field electronically instead of submitting hard copy forms.
