Summary
New Jersey discontinues Medicaid reimbursement for methadone maintenance services (including methadone, individual and group therapy) for WFNJ/GA beneficiaries through traditional drug clinics effective July 1, 2003. These services must now be accessed exclusively through the Work First New Jersey Substance Abuse Initiative using different HCPCS codes, and require prior authorization from the SAI.
Action Required
By June 30, 2003: Billing team must immediately stop submitting claims using HCPCS codes Z2000-Z2007 and Z2010 for WFNJ/GA beneficiaries (identified by county codes 01-21 in first two ID positions and '70' in 3rd & 4th positions). Any claims received by Unisys on or after July 1, 2003, for these codes will be denied regardless of service date. For services with dates through June 30, 2003, submit hard-copy paper claims to NJDMAHS WFNJ/GA Unit (Mail Code 33, P.O. Box 712, Trenton, NJ 08625-0712, Attention: WFNJ/GA Methadone Maintenance Claims). Immediately contact WFNJ SAI regional office for your county to transition WFNJ/GA recipients to the SAI program and obtain required prior authorizations before billing. Update billing system to reject Z2000-Z2010 series codes for WFNJ/GA beneficiaries and require prior auth from SAI. Retrain billing staff on new SAI procedure codes (Z3348, Z3349, Z3353, Z3354, Z3355, Z3356, Z3357, Z3358, Z3359) and maximum allowances. Failure to transition claims will result in automatic denial and payment recoupment.
