Summary
New Jersey nursing facilities must recalculate Medicaid patient liability amounts to reflect a 2.1% Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) effective January 1, 2004. Billing teams must compare updated NET INCOME AFTER amounts from the COLA UPDATE REPORT to current PATIENT PAYMENT entries (Block #35 on MCNH-117 forms) and submit corrections to Unisys if differences are $1.00 or more.
Action Required
By January 31, 2004: Billing team must (1) obtain and review the COLA UPDATE REPORT from Unisys; (2) compare the NET INC AFTER column to the current PATIENT PAYMENT amount in Block #35 of the MCNH-117 Turn Around Document for each nursing facility resident; (3) for discrepancies of $1.00 or more, update Block #35 with the new patient liability amount and submit the corrected MCNH-117 form to Unisys (P.O. Box 4805, Trenton, NJ 08650-4805), or update the PATIENT PAYMENT field for EMC submitters; (4) notify the County Welfare Agency to request a new PR1 form for affected beneficiaries; (5) for discrepancies under $1.00, update Block #35 but do NOT contact the County Welfare Agency. Failure to update patient liability amounts may result in incorrect billing and collection issues.
