Summary

New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare are deleting 10 local procedure and modifier codes (W9847, W9848, W9848 AV, W9849, W9849 AV, W9853, W9853 AV, W9854, W9854 AV, W9857, W9857 AV, Z1100, Z1105, Z1110) effective April 1, 2004. Action Required

Action needed
By March 31, 2004: Billing team must immediately audit all billing software, fee schedules, and encounter forms to identify and remove the 14 deleted local codes (W9847, W9848, W9848 AV, W9849, W9849 AV, W9853, W9853 AV, W9854, W9854 AV, W9857, W9857 AV, Z1100, Z1105, Z1110). For each deleted code, identify the corresponding national CPT or HCPCS code from the CPT book or Medicare HCPCS manual and update billing system rules to use the replacement code. Do NOT submit claims with these deleted codes on or after April 1, 2004, as New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare will deny them. Notify all providers in writing of this change. Update billing templates and superbills to reflect only valid codes. Consequences: Claims submitted with deleted codes will be rejected by the payer.
