Summary
New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare are discontinuing the use of local modifier code ZI (Mental Health Clinic) effective April 1, 2004. Providers must replace ZI with the national modifier code UC when submitting claims for mental health clinic services. This affects all claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2004.
Action Required
By March 31, 2004: Billing team must update all billing system configurations, templates, and software to replace local modifier ZI with national modifier UC for mental health clinic claims. Audit all pending and queued claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2004 to ensure ZI is not used. Notify all providers and clinics to use UC instead of ZI on all mental health clinic encounter forms and claim submissions. Failure to implement this change will result in claim denials for mental health services submitted on or after the effective date.
