Summary
New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare are discontinuing certain local podiatry procedure and modifier codes effective April 1, 2004. Providers must replace deleted codes with equivalent national CPT/HCPCS codes (e.g., W2650 and W2655 have no replacement and are deleted entirely; X4280 becomes L3580; X4810 becomes L3580 with modifier 52). Claims submitted with deleted codes on or after the effective date will not be accepted.
Action Required
By March 31, 2004: Billing team must update all billing software and claim submission systems to replace the following local codes with national equivalents: W2650 (delete—do not bill), W2655 (delete—do not bill), X4280→L3580, X4290→L3649, X4810→L3580 with modifier 52, X4890→L3649, X4891→L3649, X4892→L3649, X4894→L3649. Notify all podiatrists in the practice of code changes and provide updated code reference materials. Audit pending claims with service dates on/after April 1, 2004 to ensure no deleted codes are submitted. Claims submitted with codes W2650, W2655, X4280, X4290, X4810, X4890, X4891, X4892, or X4894 will be rejected by NJ Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare.
