Summary
New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare are discontinuing nine local procedure and modifier codes (Y9838, Y9839, Y9843, Y9844, Y9847, Y9867, Y9873, Y9876) effective April 1, 2004. Providers must replace these deleted codes with equivalent national CPT and HCPCS codes when submitting claims for fee-for-service covered services.
Action Required
By March 31, 2004: Billing team must update all billing software and claim submission systems to discontinue use of local codes Y9838, Y9839, Y9843, Y9844, Y9847, Y9867, Y9873, and Y9876. Replace with national HCPCS codes S5120, S5160, S5161, S5125, and S5170, applying appropriate modifiers (52, 22, 22n) as specified in the policy mapping table. For all NJ Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare fee-for-service claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2004, use only the national codes. Failure to update codes will result in claim denials. Verify mapping table accuracy in billing system configuration and test before the effective date.
