Summary
The New Jersey Medicaid Program now recognizes the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as an approved accrediting body for Personal Care Assistant (PCA) services, in addition to existing accreditors (CAHC, CHAP, NAHC). Agencies must obtain a separate, distinct JCAHO accreditation specifically for New Jersey Medicaid PCA services; existing JCAHO accreditation for other programs does not satisfy this requirement.
Action Required
By December 15, 2004: Home health agencies, PCA agencies, and homemaker agencies providing PCA services in New Jersey must verify their accreditation status with the New Jersey Medicaid Program. Billing teams should document which accrediting body (CAHC, CHAP, NAHC, or JCAHO) each PCA provider holds. If a provider has only JCAHO accreditation for other services, notify the provider that a separate New Jersey Medicaid PCA accreditation application is required. Do not bill New Jersey Medicaid for PCA services from providers lacking appropriate accreditation. Contact Maryanne L.
