Summary
New Jersey Medicaid (NJ FamilyCare) is eliminating the requirement for providers to obtain signed patient certification statements for non-face-to-face services (mail, delivery). Instead, providers must maintain proof of delivery: the signed delivery/shipping tracking slip, tracking number, and copy of the shipping invoice on file before billing.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must stop requiring patient certification statements for non-face-to-face delivered services (mail, courier, etc.) to NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid. Instead, update billing workflow and claim submission procedures to document and retain: (1) signed delivery/shipping service tracking slip, (2) tracking number, and (3) copy of shipping invoice on file before submitting claims. Update billing software validation rules to reflect this change. Notify providers of the new documentation requirements. Failure to maintain proper delivery documentation will result in claim denials.
