Summary
New Jersey Medicaid requires all covered healthcare providers to obtain and report a National Provider Identifier (NPI) on all claims submitted on or after May 23, 2007. Claims without valid NPIs will be denied payment.
Action Required
By May 23, 2007: All covered providers must obtain an NPI by applying at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov or calling 1-800-465-3203. Billing team must update all claims submission processes to include valid NPI numbers and notify software vendors/billing agents of assigned NPIs. Report NPI information to NJ at http://www.njmmis.com. Failure to include valid NPI will result in claim denials after May 23, 2007.
