Summary
New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare are discontinuing six local procedure/modifier codes (Z1830, Z1834, Z1835, Z1850, Z1851, Z1853) effective July 1, 2009. These codes have no replacement codes and must not be used on any claims with service dates on or after the effective date. Providers must immediately identify any workflows or billing logic dependent on these codes and remove them from their systems.
Action Required
By June 30, 2009: Billing team must audit all active billing templates, encounter forms, and automated billing rules in the practice management system to identify any use of codes Z1830, Z1834, Z1835, Z1850, Z1851, or Z1853. Remove all references to these six codes from billing workflows, fee schedules, and claim submission logic. Provider staff must be notified to stop using these codes on encounter documentation. Any claims submitted for dates of service on or after July 1, 2009 using these codes will be denied by NJ Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare. Retain this newsletter for compliance documentation.
