Summary
Effective July 1, 2009, the New Jersey Department of Medical Assistance & Health Services is discontinuing acceptance of local procedure code Z4333 for Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare fee-for-service claims. This code has been deleted entirely with no replacement code provided. Billing teams must stop using this code and identify alternative coding strategies for affected services.
Action Required
By June 30, 2009: Billing team must identify all claims currently using local code Z4333 and determine the appropriate replacement coding methodology (likely a standard CPT or HCPCS code). Update billing software to reject or flag Z4333 submissions for NJ Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare claims with dates of service on or after July 1, 2009. Contact Unisys Provider Services at 1-800-776-6334 if clarification is needed on alternative coding. Failure to comply will result in claim denials for Z4333 submissions after the effective date. Retain this newsletter for future reference and auditing purposes.
