Summary
New Jersey is deleting 21 local procedure codes (Y7333-Y7373 series) effective July 1, 2009 with no replacement codes. Billing teams must immediately identify all claims using these codes and cease billing them to avoid claim denials on Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare fee-for-service plans.
Action Required
By June 30, 2009: Billing team must audit all active billing processes and remove all 23 deleted Y-codes (Y7333, Y7334, Y7335, Y7338, Y7339, Y7345-Y7349, Y7353-Y7358, Y7363-Y7366, Y7368-Y7369, Y7373) from billing software and encounter templates. Providers must identify any claims pending with these codes for NJ Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare fee-for-service beneficiaries and either resubmit with alternate codes or cancel before July 1, 2009. Effective July 1, 2009 and forward, do not submit any claims using these Y-codes—the state will not accept them and claims will be denied. Contact Michael A. Nuskey at 1-609-984-5103 if your practice needs guidance on alternative coding options for services previously billed with deleted codes.
