Summary

New Jersey Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare will now reimburse Mobile Intensive Care Unit/Advanced Life Support (MICU/ALS) services when provided by licensed transportation entities acting on behalf of hospitals or hospital consortiums, as an alternative to hospital-based billing. This expands reimbursement options for MICU/ALS services to include properly licensed third-party providers.

Action Required

Action needed
New Jersey hospitals and transportation providers: Review current MICU/ALS billing arrangements and verify that any third-party MICU/ALS providers have proper Certificate of Need approval and DHSS licensing per N.J.A.C. 8:41-2. Update billing workflows to accommodate reimbursement through licensed entities acting on behalf of hospitals when applicable.
