Summary
Effective January 1, 2011, New Jersey's Presumptive Eligibility (PE) program requires all applications to be submitted exclusively through an online application system. Hard copy (paper) applications will no longer be accepted and will be returned to providers. This mandatory shift streamlines the PE process and ensures electronically received applications reach the County Welfare Agency directly, reducing delays in eligibility determinations.
Action Required
By December 31, 2010: All providers submitting Presumptive Eligibility applications for New Jersey Medicaid/NJFC or Emergency Payment Program for Aliens must transition to the mandatory online application system. Billing and eligibility staff must: (1) obtain access credentials and training for the online portal by contacting the Division of Medical Assistance & Health Services, Presumptive Eligibility Unit at 609-588-2911; (2) cease all hard copy application submissions immediately; (3) update internal workflows and staff protocols to require online submission only; (4) train all relevant personnel on the new system before the January 1, 2011 effective date. Consequence: All hard copy applications submitted on or after January 1, 2011 will be rejected and returned, causing delays in patient eligibility determinations and potential claim processing issues.
