[Ohio] NICU Authorization Reminder
CareSource·OH · Critical Care, Pediatrics·Provider Bulletin
Effective date

We identified it
May 9, 2026
Summary
CareSource (Ohio Medicaid) is reminding providers to submit NICU authorization requests using the infant's name and CareSource ID instead of the mother's information. Submitting under the mother's name causes processing delays. If the infant's CareSource ID is unavailable, providers should fax or email requests directly to the NICU UM department.
Action Required
By August 1, 2025: Billing and authorization staff must update NICU authorization submission procedures. When processing NICU authorization requests on the CareSource Provider Portal, ensure requests are submitted using the infant's name and CareSource ID, NOT the mother's information. Train all staff submitting NICU authorizations on this requirement. For cases where the infant's CareSource ID is not available at time of request, establish a process to fax requests to 937-396-3499 or email to NICU_UM_Clinical@CareSource.com. Failure to follow this procedure will result in authorization processing delays. Contact Provider Services at 1-800-488-0134 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. ET) with questions.
