Summary
Effective July 1, 2010, NJ FamilyCare Plan D expanded its HMO benefit package to include coverage for durable medical equipment (DME) and medical supplies. The policy provides a comprehensive list of 40+ covered items including mobility aids, ostomy supplies, respiratory equipment, glucose monitoring supplies, and infusion-related equipment. Billing teams must verify patient Plan D eligibility and ensure claims for these newly covered services are properly coded and submitted.
Action Required
By July 1, 2010 (retroactively applicable): Billing team must update billing system to reflect newly covered DME and medical supply services for NJ FamilyCare Plan D beneficiaries. Review the attached coverage list and ensure billing rules allow claims submission for listed items (alternating pressure pads, blood glucose monitors, crutches, hospital beds, infusion pumps, nebulizers, oxygen equipment, wheelchairs, ostomy supplies, etc.). For claims with service dates on or after July 1, 2010, verify Plan D member eligibility before billing DME/supplies. Note specific exclusions in billing system: motorized wheelchairs, low air loss/air-fluidized beds, ventilation systems, and permanently attached bathroom devices are NOT covered.
