Summary
New Jersey Medicaid implemented new behavioral health CPT codes (90791, 90792, 90832, 90833, 90834, 90836) effective January 1, 2013, with specific fee allowances for specialists and non-specialists. Claims using these new codes could be submitted starting August 1, 2013, and providers who previously billed using 2012 codes must submit adjustment claims to receive higher payment rates.

By August 1, 2013: Billing team must update systems to use new behavioral health CPT codes (90791, 90792, 90832, 90833, 90834, 90836) with corresponding fee allowances. Submit adjustment claims for any previously billed 2012 codes to receive higher payment rates. Update billing software with new specialist/non-specialist fee schedules and modifier combinations (26, UC, SA). Claims with service dates from January 1, 2013 onward are eligible for payment consideration.
