Summary
New Jersey increased the Personal Needs Allowance for Medicaid nursing facility residents from $35 to $50 per month, reducing their cost share payments by $15. Nursing facilities will receive an additional $15 per month from MCOs or the state to compensate for this reduction in resident payments.
Action Required
By September 1, 2017: Nursing facility billing teams must update resident cost share calculations to reflect the $15 monthly reduction in patient payments. Update PNA account management systems to show the increased $50 monthly allowance for eligible residents. Verify additional $15 monthly payments are being received from Managed Care Organizations or state fee-for-service claims.
