Summary

By December 31, 2022: Billing team must update hospital billing systems to capture and report correct patient discharge status codes in UB-04 Form Locator 17. Ensure all discharge codes (01-95) are properly mapped in the billing software, with special attention to codes 70 (substance abuse rehabilitation) and 81 (Hospital at Home). Work with providers and discharge planners to ensure accurate discharge disposition documentation at point of care. Train billing and coding staff on the expanded code set. Verify that Gainwell Technologies system is updated to support all new codes. Failure to report correct discharge status codes will result in claim denials and NUBC non-compliance.
