Summary
New Jersey is launching the Behavioral Health Promoting Interoperability Program (BH PIP), a voluntary financial incentive program offering up to $55,000 in milestone-based payments to eligible behavioral health clinics that implement or upgrade EHR systems with interoperability capabilities. Eligible independent behavioral health facilities with ≥20% Medicaid patient volume must complete a questionnaire at NJII's website and submit documentation through NJMMIS for approval to receive incentive payments.
Action Required
This policy is informational for most billing practices. ACTION REQUIRED ONLY IF YOUR PRACTICE IS AN ELIGIBLE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CLINIC IN NEW JERSEY: (1) Determine if your practice meets eligibility criteria (licensed behavioral health facility in NJ with ≥20% Medicaid patient volume over consecutive 90-day period in past 12 months, and has NOT previously participated in SUD Promoting Interoperability Program); (2) If eligible, Providers should visit https://www.njii.com/healthcare/behavioral-health-bh-pip/ to complete the eligibility questionnaire; (3) Once eligibility is confirmed, an NJII coordinator will contact your practice to guide through program requirements including milestone documentation; (4) Submit all required documentation through the NJMMIS portal for State review and approval; (5) Upon approval, NJII will coordinate incentive payments. No billing workflow changes required for non-behavioral health practices or practices not participating in this voluntary program.
