Summary
MO HealthNet now requires prior authorization for biopsychosocial treatment of obesity, which must include both medical nutrition therapy and behavioral health counseling as an integrated approach. Providers must be specifically enrolled as a Biopsychosocial Treatment of Obesity provider and obtain pre-certification before services begin.
Action Required
Immediately: 1) Billing team must update system to require prior authorization for all biopsychosocial obesity treatment services by calling 800-392-8030 option 7 or using CyberAccess before services begin. 2) Providers must enroll as Biopsychosocial Treatment of Obesity providers at https://peu.momed.com/peu/momed/presentation/commongui/PeHome.jsp or email MMAC.ProviderEnrollment@dss.mo.gov. 3) Update encounter forms to remind providers that isolated medical nutrition therapy or behavioral health counseling will not be approved - both components must be provided together. Claims submitted without proper enrollment and prior authorization will be denied.
