Summary
Effective October 1, 2023, Missouri Medicaid (MHD) will no longer approve retroactive prior authorization requests for behavioral health residential and treatment foster care services. Providers with outstanding requests must submit them by September 29, 2023, or they will be denied.
Action Required
By September 29, 2023: Providers must fax all outstanding prior authorization requests for residential (QRTP, non-QRTP, non-IMD QRTP) and treatment foster care services (TFC Level 1 and 2) to (573) 659-0207. Starting October 1, 2023: Billing team must ensure all prior authorizations for these services are submitted prospectively only - no retroactive requests will be approved. Update workflows to submit authorization requests 10 calendar days prior to admission date. Failure to obtain prospective authorization will result in claim denials.
