Summary

Due to ongoing GLP-1 medication shortages, MO HealthNet is instructing providers to avoid submitting prior authorization requests for non-preferred GLP-1 agonists when the reason is solely supply shortages. Instead, providers should substitute with preferred GLP-1 agonists (Victoza, Trulicity, Byetta) or preferred DPP-4 inhibitors.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Providers must stop submitting PA requests for non-preferred GLP-1 agonists when solely due to shortage issues. Instead, substitute with preferred alternatives: Victoza (liraglutide), Trulicity (dulaglutide), or Byetta (exenatide) for GLP-1 options, or preferred DPP-4 inhibitors including Janumet, Januvia, Jentadueto, Kombiglyze XR, Onglyza, or Tradjenta. Update clinical protocols to reflect these preferred alternatives during shortage periods.
