Summary
CHIP participants are not eligible for VFC vaccines and must be tracked separately. Providers must verify CHIP eligibility using specific ME codes (73, 74, 75), document CHIP as the funding source, and complete Vaccine Borrowing Reports when using VFC doses for CHIP participants.
Action Required
Immediately: Clinical staff must check eMOMED for ME codes 73, 74, or 75 before vaccine administration to identify CHIP participants. Update EMR/ShowMeVax to document CHIP eligibility and select CHIP as funding source for immunizations. If CHIP funding option unavailable in EMR, contact IT to add it. When no CHIP doses available, use VFC dose and complete Vaccine Borrowing Report to keep onsite. Billing team should ensure vaccine administration is properly coded with correct funding source documentation.
