Summary
Healthfirst is implementing multiple changes following the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, including new telehealth billing restrictions effective April 1, 2024, discontinuation of COVID-19 specific codes and modifiers, and elimination of enhanced reimbursement rates. The most significant change is that telehealth claims can no longer use POS 11 with Modifier 95 and POS 02 will be reimbursed at lower non-office rates.
Action Required
By April 1, 2024: Billing team must update telehealth billing procedures to stop using POS 11 with Modifier 95 for telehealth claims. Update billing system to use appropriate POS codes for telehealth services and note that POS 02 will be reimbursed at non-office rates. Immediately stop using CR and DR modifiers for COVID-19 services with dates of service after May 12, 2023. Discontinue billing HCPCS codes U0003, U0004, and U0005 for COVID-19 testing performed after May 12, 2023, and use appropriate standard COVID-19 testing codes instead.
