Summary
Oklahoma Medicaid (SoonerCare) now allows Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) with psychiatric certifications and physician assistants (PAs) to provide inpatient psychiatric services, including psychiatric evaluations and weekly individual treatment hours. Previously, only psychiatrists could provide these services in inpatient settings.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team should verify that claims for inpatient psychiatric services provided by APRNs with psychiatric certifications and PAs are being processed correctly for SoonerCare members. Update provider credentialing records to include APRN psychiatric certifications and PA qualifications. Review any previously denied claims for psychiatric evaluations and weekly individual treatment hours provided by APRNs/PAs that may now be eligible for reprocessing.
