Summary

Oscar insurance is changing how overpayment and recovery processes work. Instead of sending separate refund request letters and placing claims on hold, all overpayment information will now appear directly on EOPs/835s, claims will be processed immediately, and overpayment details will be visible in the Provider Portal. This streamlines communication and accelerates claim processing.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must stop expecting separate 'Request for Refund' letters from Oscar and instead monitor all EOPs/835s for overpayment notifications and offset details. Update internal workflows to check the Provider Portal Claims Detail page and Payment Detail page for overpayment information. Train billing staff to recognize new EOP message formats: 'Oscar has identified an overpayment due to [reason] but is not pursuing recovery' and 'This overpayment was previously identified due to [reason] and Oscar is still awaiting recovery.' Expect increased offsetting activity from previously held claims backlog during settlement period. Ensure team monitors claims on normal processing schedule rather than expecting holds for overpayments.
