Summary
DentaQuest will now recoup payment for therapeutic pulpotomies (D3220) and gross pulpal debridement (D3221) when the same provider subsequently performs endodontic therapy on the same tooth. This means providers cannot bill separately for both procedures on the same tooth by the same provider/location.
Action Required
Before December 9, 2024: Dental billing team must update DentaQuest claims processing to expect payment recoupment when billing endodontic therapy codes (D3310, D3320, D3330) on the same tooth where D3220 or D3221 was previously billed by the same provider/location. Review and adjust billing practices to account for this recoupment policy to avoid unexpected payment adjustments.
