Summary
Kentucky Medicaid has expanded Mobile Crisis Intervention Services (MCIS) effective around June 1, 2024, introducing new behavioral health crisis services with specific billing codes. All providers must contract with Carelon Behavioral Health as the new Administrative Services Organization - providers can no longer bill Fee-for-Service or Managed Care Organizations directly for these services starting June 1, 2024.
Action Required
By June 1, 2024: Behavioral health providers offering crisis services must contract with Carelon Behavioral Health (contact Eric.Eason@carelon.com) to continue providing Mobile Crisis Intervention Services, 23-Hour Crisis Observation & Stabilization, and Behavioral Health Crisis Transport. Update billing systems to route these services through Carelon instead of direct Fee-for-Service or MCO billing. Failure to contract with Carelon will prevent billing for these behavioral health crisis services.
