Summary
Effective April 1, 2024, Kentucky Medicaid removed modifier 50 for multiple surgical procedures performed on the same date at ambulatory surgical centers. Facilities will now receive 100% reimbursement for the primary procedure and 50% for secondary procedures automatically, without needing to append modifier 50.

Immediately: Billing team must stop using modifier 50 when billing Kentucky Medicaid for multiple surgical procedures performed on the same date at ASCs. Update billing software rules to automatically remove modifier 50 for Kentucky Medicaid ASC claims. Verify that secondary procedures are being reimbursed at 50% without the modifier.
