Summary
Colorado Medicaid is implementing new billing requirements for obstetric services effective June 1, 2023. Providers must now include CPT Category II codes (0500F, 0501F, 0502F, 0503F) on claims to document each prenatal and postpartum visit with specific dates of service, alongside existing global OB codes.
Action Required
By June 1, 2023: Billing team must update obstetric billing procedures to include CPT Category II codes (0500F/0501F for initial prenatal visits, 0502F for subsequent prenatal visits, 0503F for postpartum visits) on same claim as global/partial OB codes. Each Category II code must include specific date of service for individual prenatal and postpartum visits. Update billing software to handle multiple line items with no-charge Category II codes. Train providers on documentation requirements. This applies to Fee-for-Service providers (mandatory) and is recommended for FQHC/RHC providers.
